Why they are here
A theoretical physicist who, with Chen-Ning Yang, won the 1957 Nobel Prize in Physics for work on parity violation, at the age of thirty.
Tsung-Dao Lee studied in wartime China before going to the University of Chicago. His work with Yang on parity violation earned them the Nobel Prize in 1957; he was one of the youngest laureates in physics.
He spent most of his career at Columbia University and did much to foster scientific exchange between China and the United States.
